Yoga has been instrumental in my life through many seasons - anxiety, loss, and finding purpose. I have often found times and spaces around my home to have a private yoga session where I make the environment very comfortable for my preferences - sometimes with a gently colored lightbulb, relaxing essential oil aromatherapy, and my sweet Australian Shepherd nearby.
Most recently, I dealt with early morning severe anxiety and grief by sharing a walk with a friend and followed it up with yoga on the back porch. The peace and stillness I seek during yoga doesn't always come easily, but the practice of rolling out the mat, sitting, breathing, and moving creates a format that is possible and comfortable to repeat. Creating this habit of self-care has, in my experience, provided me with something familiar when other things in life are strange or painful.
